First Communion Pillar - 100% Beeswax Altar Candle
“From the April 2018 Newsletter of the Committee on Divine Worship
Prior to the Second Vatican Council altar candles were to be composed primarily or to a significant extent of pure beeswax, with the exact percentage determined by the diocesan bishop. The candle itself was given a mystical meaning: the beeswax symbolized the pure flesh Christ received from his Virgin Mother, the wick symbolized his soul, and the flame his divinity.”

The tradition of using pure beeswax candles for our altars and churches has been watered down as access and affordability have come into question. We would like to keep the tradition alive by offering altar candles made of 100% local beeswax - straight from the farm! These beautiful candles will enhance your prayer life, and emit a subtly sweet honey-like aroma.
Inspired by Gothic architecture. The tower section of the mold is octagonal. Jesus revealed Himself eight times after His resurrection. He also returned to work on the eighth day after creation. Among the many details in this design are wheat spikes, symbolizing abundance and the shining star of Bethlehem and the cross crosslet, made of four smaller crosses, which represents the spread of the gospel to all corners of the world.
